Volunteering FAQs

The National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) define volunteering as being “when someone spends unpaid time doing something to benefit others. Volunteering can be formal and organised by [groups] or informal within communities. It should always be a free choice made by the person giving up their time.

Volunteering should fit around you and your other commitments. There’s a role for everyone, whether you can commit a few hours a week, or to one annual event.

There are lots of different reasons why people volunteer:

  • To meet new people
  • To do something they enjoy
  • As a pathway into something new
  • To help make a difference to your community
  • To have fun
  • To help build confidence
  • To improve your physical and mental wellbeing

To name a few!
