Earth Day is a chance to reflect on how we protect the land that feeds us. Across Clackmannanshire, community groups, local businesses and networks are working together to build a food system that is both healthy and climate-resilient.
The need for local action has never been greater. In 2024, Scotland generated a staggering 2.32 million tonnes of household waste. Small, community-led changes – such as supporting local growers and reducing single-use packaging – can create a big collective impact.
Forth Valley Food Futures
Food choices shape our environment, our health and local economy. Supporting local producers, reducing waste and strengthening community food projects help cut emissions and build community resilience.
These are the priorities that drive Forth Valley Food Futures as it brings together partners to transform our regions food systems. The network maintains a Sustainable Food Directory, which includes 179 local projects, groups and businesses across the Forth Valley.
Members include a wide range of initiatives and projects, from emergency food providers to community cafes and gardens. Tullibody Community Garden is an example of a neighbourhood-led growing space focused on growing local food with local people. Wimpy Park is another community created space that combines growing areas and places for recreation and community connection.
There are many ways to get involved and support these initiatives this Earth Day.
