A New Forever Home

Julie Haslam (Team Leader – Membership, Enterprise, and Capacity Building)

Belle & Roxy have been with us for just over a week now and they couldn’t have come at a better time. Two weeks ago we got a phone call from Mag’s the Scottish Coordinator from The Edward Foundation, a charity set up to help rehome bulldogs. She asked us if we could foster two sisters who had been used for breeding and who were no longer wanted. I didn’t hesitate and said yes straight away. We collected the girls on Sunday evening and life hasn’t been the same since.

The Covid-19 pandemic was just peaking locally and a week after collecting the girls we went into lockdown. Having a toddler whose world had just been turned upside down no nursery, no activities and no play dates or seeing family is tough! Luckily we had the dogs to keep him entertained, this became his new routine of making sure they were fed, played fetch in the garden to cuddles on the couch.

We owe everything to The Edward Foundation for choosing us to rehome these girls at one of the most difficult and testing times our generations will ever have to go through. We can live in the safety of our home pretending that the pandemic isn’t happening at least for a few hours a day.

When I start to feel anxious or worry about the what if’s I get a gentle nudge from one of the dogs who look at me with their big puppy dog eyes and see that they are happy now that they have found their forever home… ❤
