Sandra White MSP secured a debate in the Scottish Parliament on 28 November at which the continuing closure of bank branches was discussed, with the corresponding detrimental impact this has on many older people. Age Scotland also have a press release on the new energy price cap – NEW ENERGY PRICE CAP – Press Release – November 2018 – which will come into effect from 1 January 2019. Older people may be able to save more on their energy bills by contacting the Age Scotland Helpline for a free benefits check : telephone 0800 12 44 222. Figures suggest that many are not claiming all the benefits they are entitled to, including four in ten who could be receiving Pension Credit but are not doing so. This may mean that they are also missing out on Warm Homes Discounts and Cold Weather Payments.
